VDI / DVGW 6023: Hygiene Conscious Planning, Execution, Operation and Maintenance of Drinking Water Installations “Category A”

Healthy drinking water?

In the new ordinance on drinking water TrinkwV of 2011, the quality of drinking water is regulated. A generally accepted rule of technology is VDI guideline 6023: “Hygiene in drinking water installations, requirements to planning, execution, operation and maintenance”. In April 2013, an edited version was published. According to this guideline, category A is taught for planning and responsibly constructing activities, while category B is taught for constructing and maintaining activities.

In the course of this training in hygiene by BauAkademie, the alterations of the edited version of TrinkwV of August 2013, are already included.  

The training in drinking water hygiene according to VDI / DVGW 6023 category A lasts 2 days.

  • Relevant hygiene basics in relation to the importance and the necessity of hygiene in the operation of drinking water systems:
    - Hygienic requirements

    - Nature and extent of possible health problems due to potential lacks in the system

    - Explanation of the chemical, physical and microbiological relationships in drinking water systems

    - Personal protection measures in the implementation maintenance measures
    - Hygiene while performing maintenance measures

  • Hygienic problem areas and maintenance of drinking water systems

    - Pros and cons of single system components for water treatment from a hygienic standpoint
    - Hygienic requirements in the planning and redevelopment of drinking water systems
    - Evaluation of existing maintenance plans under hygienic aspects
    - Relationships and backgrounds of the emergence of hygienic problem areas and their avoidance 

  • Measurement methods for the supervision of drinking water systems
    - Physical measurement methods
    - Microbiological determination and sampling
    - Chemical and physical-chemical determination and sampling
    - Recognition of a need for action, measuring methods, possibilities of the extension of hygienic controls

  • Relevant regulations and technical rules

   Exam and Certificate

  • The successful participation in the hygiene training according to category A has to be proved with a passed exam. The participant will receive a certificate as proof of the participation in the hygiene training according to VDI 6023 and the passed exam.
